Hello! I wanted to share an inside look at how the process of building a brand works so here’s one of my favorite projects I worked on which included making a typeface, pattern, and packaging for a cosmetic brand inspired by Cleopatra.
Cleopatra was not only known for being the Queen of the Nile but also for her lavish, exotic eye makeup. Cleo Cosmetics pays tribute to her sense of style by targeting women who desire a dramatic eyeliner look. The colors used are based upon ancient Egypt but Cleo comes in sleep black packaging to target sophisticated women ages 20-35. With hand rendered type, which changes from thick to thin portraying the look of eyeliner, and ethnic patterning, Cleo inspires women to love the way they look by being independent and powerful, just like Cleopatra. The bonus gifts with purchase are a sleep mask or a travel make up bag that’s big enough to fit any make up essentials to take on the go. The Cleo symbol and pattern was created with the letter ‘S’ in the featured font. The ‘S’ was cut in half and made into a design that is the Cleo symbol.
Cleo is an empowering display typeface, built with smooth height and dynamic glyphs which change from thick to thin. Cleo is a specialty font designed for large points setting, contains four weights: light, regular, bold, and extra bold. Cleo typefaces are good for display type such as headlines in posters, titles, etc.
